Daniel SteenstraDaniel set up InterAlign in 1999 after a distinguished career in industry and academia.  He is responsible for the development and implementation of complexity management systems with clients.

His career in industry started at Studio Michelotti in Italy as a result of winning a design competition.  Here Daniel gained invaluable practical design experience, working on a variety of projects, from Ferrari show cars to coffee machines.

After a brief spell in Germany, as Chief Designer of In-Design in Ingolstadt, he fulfilled a boyhood dream as project stylist in Jaguar.  He designed and managed many interior and exteriors, including the interior of the current XK8 sports car.  As a qualified ISO 9001 lead assessor Daniel established formal processes for New Product Development in Jaguar.  This led to advising the team responsible for the Ford Product Development Process in the USA.  In the meantime he also managed the Design Strategy studio in Jaguar, investigating the viability of new concepts.  Working for one of the leading automotive brands, Daniel established design as a key factor to business success.

To gain wider industrial and academic experience he joined Warwick Manufacturing Group at the University of Warwick.  WMG is the biggest post graduate development centre of its kind in Europe and has several centres in the Far East.  Daniel was responsible for the integration of strategic design processes in manager development and postgraduate programmes, and managed the Design, Strategy and Management programme for senior industrialists in the Far East.  Daniel forged local links between industry and academia, resulting in a successful bid to establish Innovation Direct.  He was able to raise government and private funding for a total of over £ 1.1M in support of research and delivery programmes of strategic design methodologies.

After WMG Daniel went back into industry as a management consultant, initially working for Viadynamics Ltd.  As company director he was responsible for Human Resources and Business Processes. He developed and implemented innovation tools and processes for client organisations such as Alstom and Unilever.

He then set up his own company InterAlign in 1999 in order to develop and commercialise InterQB It®– a unique package that deals with complexity in organisations by developing a common vision, a plan of actions and managing the risks involved.

Daniel has a higher degree in Medicine and worked as a house officer in several Dutch hospitals.  As (part-time) project manager of HealthTech at the University of Warwick Daniel is now able to use his experience to support individuals and companies to develop medical technologies and processes and to diversify into the healthcare sector.  HealthTech is partially funded through ERDF.  He coordinates the HealthTech delivery team consisting of five expert consultants.  He has established strong operational links with key hospital trusts and MidTech, the NHS Innovation Hub for the region.

He was a member of the Medical & Healthcare Cluster COG (Cluster Opportunity Group) in Advantage West Midlands (the Regional Development Agency for the West-Midlands.  The COG is responsible for determining the vision for the healthcare sector; determining relevant actions and allocating of funding.

In December 2001 he was approached to become a Visiting Professor at India’s National Institute of Design.  In April 2002 Daniel was appointed Guest Professor at Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi’an – China.

The thread through his diverse professional activities is his passion to improve the quality of people's lives, first through healthcare then through the design of services; products; processes and organisations.
